Small SUV buying guide

Small SUVs punch well above their weight. They often manage to be as spacious as a traditional family hatchback, but take up less space on the road – so they’re easier to park. Often, a small SUV will have a high seating position, giving you a great view of the road ahead, and 4x4 styling to make you look adventurous. But you don’t get 4x4 running costs – small SUVs are usually cheap on fuel and insurance.

Most small SUVs have petrol engines, although an increasing number are available with hybrid and fully electric options. They’re perfectly suited to the city, but feel just as capable on motorways and tight country lanes. Some top used small SUVs include the Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008 and Nissan Juke.
